Accessing Theory Group Machines From Outside the University

Without using VPN

If you are outside the Unviersity and you are not using the VPN, then you will not be able to directly access theory group machines. The only exception to this is pyserver. So, if you wish to access, e.g. your desktop, log-in first to pyserver and connect from there.

Using the Swansea University VPN

The University's VPN service can enable you to directly access theory group machines (in particular your deskopt). This VPN service is available for:

• wireless laptop internet connections on campus

• home PC's accessing the internet via broadband

See here for details about how to register with this VPN service, or phone the LIS computer help desk on extension 5060. Since this system is run by the University, and not the department/group, most of the technical assistance for this should be obtained from the LIS in the University.
