Extra Help with Example Hadron Number 2
We can see that this particle satisfies the first two
criteria for being a hadron because:
- The momentum of the observed charged particle track is somewhere between
4 and 8 GeV.
(We can tell this because the track is drawn in green.)
The energy observed where the particle track strikes the
electromagnetic calorimeter is somewhere between 1 and 2 GeV.
(We can tell this because the cluster of energy is drawn in purple.)
The momentum of the observed charged particle track is therefore larger
than the energy observed where it strikes the electromagnetic calorimeter.
- There are no signals produced in the muon chambers.
It does not satisfy the third criterion because:
- An energy deposit is NOT visible in the hadronic calorimeter.
However, the fact that the particle satisfies the first two
criteria is enough for us to identify it as a hadron.
