ML meets LFT
Wednesday July 24 - Friday July 26 2024
organisers: Gert Aarts, Matteo Favoni and Biagio Lucini
(Swansea University)
Location: Vivian Tower room 516 and Outer Horizon (Vivian 6th floor)
Purpose
The purpose of the meeting is to offer a platform for informal presentations and discussion for researchers working on the interface of lattice field theory and machine learning. The meeting will precede the Lattice conference in Liverpool and may hence be useful for those coming from further afield. There is no fee; we have a small budget to cover lunches and coffee breaks. Note that participation is by invitation/upon request, but feel free to suggest potential participants (contact g.aarts @ swansea.ac.uk).
Programme
Practicalities during the meeting
- The meeting will start at 9:30am on Wednesday July 24 and finish at 5pm on Friday July 26.
- The meeting will take place in the "Inner and Outer Horizons", 6th floor of the Vivian Tower, and seminar room 516, 5th floor of the Vivian Tower, Department of Physics, Singleton Campus, Swansea University. The postal code is SA2 8PP. The Vivian Tower is Building 11.2 on the campus plan.
- The main building for food, coffee, a supermarket (Costcutter) and information is Fulton House, the glass-fronted building overlooking the lawn (Building 17 on the campus plan).
- Lunches and coffee breaks are organised. For (slightly) more fancy coffee, you can find a Greggs (ground floor) and a Starbucks (first floor) in Fulton House.
- Transportation in the morning: note that the workshop will take place on the Singleton campus, about 15-20 minutes drive from the Bay campus and slightly less from St Davids accommodation. We plan to arrange a few taxis each morning, to take everyone across. In the evening, one can share a taxi or take a bus back. We will email you with details.
- Bus details can be found here: First Bus. The Bay campus is on Fabian Way and Singleton Campus is in Sketty.
- Taxi companies are Yellow Cabs (01792 644446) and Oyster Cabs (01792 367777). Uber has finally arrived in Swansea.
Travel
- From the London airports one can take a direct train from London Paddington to Swansea. This takes about three hours, see e.g. the trainline.
Note that train tickets can be very expensive, depending on peak or off-peak times, especially when leaving or entering London.
-
Bristol airport is the closest airport with many low-budget airlines from across Europe.
-
When arriving at the railway station, one can take a bus. With three or more people, a taxi is often cheaper. Taxis are situated at the back of the railway station.
Accommodation
- Swansea University offers accommodation at reduced rates in the Bay campus, around £54-58/night, depending on the duration of stay. Participants are requested to book this themselves, via this link. Note that one can stay until Sunday, before travelling to Liverpool.
- Students have access to cheaper accommodation, less than £50/night, using this link.
