Professional Involvement

I am the UK's representative on CERN's Computing Resources Scrutiny Board. This board studies the requests for computing resources from each of the Large Hadron Collider's Experiments and reports to the National Research Agencies from CERN's membership who make the funding awards.

I am a member of the GridPP Oversight Board which scrutinises the computing resources of the UK's particle physics community. I was also on the STFC Particle Physics Programme Evaluation board which reviewed the UK’s particle physics research programme.

I have several STFC public engagement roles. As well as being a Leadership Fellow in Public Engagement (2018-2020), I am a member of STFC Nucleus Public Engagement Awards Board which awards large-scale (circa £100k) awards and am on the Association of Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) Explore Your Universe Board which has oversight on the STFC-funded project to increase diversity in participation.

For three years I was a member of the Institute of Physics's National Science Board. This is the IOP's committee which sets the Institute's policy and science strategy for Council. It has a particular brief to provide the Institute's expert submissions and analysis to parliamentary enquiries and public consultations.

I was twice a member of the German DFG review panel for the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) grants which funded scientific consortia to manage their long- term data requirements.

I was a member of the organising committee for both the ``Strong and Electroweak Matter'', the ``Physics and Compuatation'' Conferences held in Swansea in the summer of 2012, a member of the International Advisory Committee for the ``International Lattice Symposium'', Cairns, Australia, June 2012, and a Convenor at the Quark Confinement Conference held in St Petersburg, Russia (2014) and Thessaloniki, Greece (2016).

I am an Editorial Board member for the MDPI Universe Letter journal. I have reviewed many applications for fellowships, research and public engagement grants, and high performance computing centres.
